It was a memorable night for everyone there. They kept them up all throughout the song leaving the entire room lit up solely by the crowd. They had all the fans bring out their phone lights and lighters. I really feel like it’s a record the world needs right now. Shinedown had a quick moment of silence to anyone in the room who had lost someone and this song would be for them.

There’s something very important inside of this. The best way to do that is by a symbol and what better symbol than an exclamation point - basically telling the listener, less is more here. We wanted to find a way to emphasize getting people’s attention - combining the visuals and sounds. The album cover is an exclamation point, but it’s very specific. From an artistic standpoint, we didn’t want to clutter it up, especially visually. That helped a lot from a direction standpoint. We didn’t have any questions going into making this album, we knew exactly what we wanted to do. In an interview with ArtistWaves, Brent was asked about the lowercase letters for the track.Įverything was built around impact. Shinedown is also gearing up for the summer leg of their 2019 ATTENTION ATTENTION World Tour which will pick up in The Woodlands, TX on June 21st with support from Badflower, Dinosaur Pile-Up, and Broken Hands. Contrary to this depiction, this is probably the most special track on the album, having such a powerful, human centric message. The GET UP EP arrives as current rock single MONSTERS breaks into the Top 5 as it continues its quick ascent on the Active Rock Chart. The title stylized in lowercase depicts the lack of being special, opposed to the remainder of the tracks being stylized in all capital letters. We shouldn’t try to put others down, instead, we should venture to elevate them so we can all be great together. Written in a semi-ironic style, the song depicts the person as they begin to realize that we are all human, and we are all capable of greatness.

“ special”, in the progression of a person from dark to light, represents the period after the person has begun to better themself. Stop waitin' on your fifteen minutes of fame, 'cause you're not special I'm not tryin' to rain on your parade, but you're not special I'm not tryin' to bring you down, I'm not tryin' to sound so ineffectual 'Cause you're not special We all live to love, we all fall apart We'd all go to war for the faint of heart Instead we're condescending There are no happy endings I won't hold my breath, I won't cast a doubt I'd never sell you out But I'll give you one last chance to own it 'Cause you're not a god or a poet, so. Stop waitin' on your fifteen minutes of fame, 'cause you're not special I'm not tryin' to rain on your parade, but you're not special I'm not tryin' to bring you down, I'm not tryin' to sound so ineffectual But you're not special Hurry up before the bottle kicks in Before the poison and the pain sets in (Get up, get up) If you take it down a notch and you let me explain That on this earth we are all the same And all I can say is.
